Regenerative Living

Regenerate Permaculture homestead nestled in the old Growth Forest of Michigan

Beartree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain into Lake Superior. Hogback Mountain is one of the largest rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers. We have been inspired by these ancient rocks to build our Homestead with materials gathered on our land. Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. We offer two cabins with uniquely different amenities. The Pond Cabin is completely off the grid and the Orchard Cabin is equip with electricity and a hand pump for water. Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape. One of the most wonderful things we have to offer is the accessibility to thousands of protected acres surrounding us and trails that bisect them. We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs. However, once you drive into Beartree Homestead and settle in, you’ll not want to leave.

The Orchard Cabin is the first log cabin built on the property. It sits next to the orchard and garden under large hemlock trees. The Cabin is located on the edge of the homestead and in the main compound area of the property and is in view of the owner’s cabin. The covered front porch overlooks the yard and pasture where the sheep, highlander cows and chickens forage. There is a pond with a hammock, a sitting area, and a fire ring for your use through the garden. “More than we expected! I’ve never vacationed like this before. It was so very memorable! The hosts Jill and Nick were extremely personable and accommodating. They showed us around and were very welcoming […] It was a pleasure to wake up to the farm sounds: Chickens roosters, sheep and cows..”

“Extraordinary property with gorgeous views all around. Within 10 minutes of Marquette but feels like your deep within the forest. Cabin is rustic and everything you would want for an off grid cabin. On site pond, lots of area to explore, all very aesthetic. Absolutely gorgeous hiking trails that you can access directly from the property, they connect to North Country trail…”
